Paraphrase sur la TE DEUM, PDF

This new Gregorian paraphrase on the great Latin hymn of praise was commissioned by Dr. Damin Spritzer, professor of organ at the University of Oklahoma. It is unclear who wrote the Te Deum laudamus' chant, although it appears that it was composed sometime during the fourth century A.D. Several great French organist-composers have written and/or improvised settings on the chant, including Charles Tournemire, Marcel Dupré, Jean Langlais and Jeanne Demessieux. George Baker's setting is inspired by these masters, and its musical language is most definitely French. The 18-page work has a duration of about 7 minutes, and its technical difficulty is 8/10. It begins and ends on the tutti, with middle sections featuring 8' foundations, crescendos to the tutti, and shimmering celestes with solo 4' flute, among other colors. It ends in a triumphant E Major.
